My Art Blog

Dear Friends,

My name is David Clark. My Art Blog was last revised on 23 September 2023.

First, I want to thank my daughter Heather, for all the help she has given me in setting up this website. Without her considerable computer skills and her preparedness to set up my website and continue to help me operate it, my website would not exist. Next, I want to thank you for taking the time to look at my website. I hope you like what you see, and that it encourages you to follow your dreams whatever they may be. If you would like me to send you a photocopy of one of my paintings, please feel free to contact me.

Through my childhood and teens I had many competing dreams for my life. For example:-. become a top cornet player or singer, a Salvation Army Church pastor, preacher, evangelist or missionary, a great hockey player, a famous artist. As it happened, having left school I spent the next 6 years as a survey draughting cadet. That would have been a great career. However after I met then married Myrtle, we chose to become Salvation Army Officers. Together we spent the next 42 years in this calling, 41 years as Salvation Army Church pastors in 15 different locations around New Zealand, and once in Victoria, Australia, and one year in Headquarters positions in New Zealand. Our Salvation Army Officership was a very fulfilling and worthwhile experience. Throughout those years, I was able to spend up to two days a month, plus a day or two a week during annual leave painting mainly landscapes. During our officership we had three children, two boys and a girl.

We have been retired for 18 years. During retirement the time I’ve spent with my art has not greatly increased. My art has always been mainly landscapes. My favorite painting locations have been coastal scenes, rivers and lakes, mountains, rural and city scenes. Another favorite focus has been my grandchildren’s soft toys and the places I have visited with them, e.g. Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, feeding river or lakeside birds. Whenever possible I prefer to begin a painting on location, usually completing it back at camp or at home that day or the next. I usually paint on A3 size 300gsm artist watercolor paper and sometimes on canvas or white painted board. Over the years I have been delighted at the number of people willing to pay a modest sum for one of my paintings. I have also displayed and sold paintings at various art exhibitions.

Whatever your reason for looking into my website, I thank you for doing so. I wish you well as you pursue the things that are important to you, and pray that God will bless you and all you do.

Yours sincerely, David John Clark.
